October 3, 2013 – Members of the Franciscan Family of General Santos consisting of: The Capuchin Friars Minor, Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Hearts, Secular Franciscan Order, Young Franciscans (YOUFRA) together with their families and friends gathered at the Orphanage of St Agnes of Montepulciano run by the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Hearts in order to celebrate the Transitus of St. Francis. This year’s solemn celebration is unique in the sense that the main actors and actresses of the Transitus were children. The delightful 10 children of the orphanage of St Agnes prepared almost daily for a month in order to present this beautiful centuries old Franciscan tradition. The children were accompanied by their two big brothers, Samuel Andaya and Nober Marboleda, both staffs of the orphanage, who also donned the Franciscan habit and carried the stretcher of St Francis. The Young Franciscans took the role of production staff making sure that the children are made up and assisted in the changing of their costumes. Fr. Francisco Armario, OFMCap. read the passage on the last supper from the Gospel of St. John and also blessed the bread that was later distributed and shared by the people. Br. Eligio Landingin, OFMCap took the role of photographer. The Secular Franciscans under the leadership of Mrs. Maria Maylia Salazar, brought food for the Franciscan Joy which followed the celebration. All would not have been possible without the assistance of our hosts, the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Hearts consisting of Sr. Magdalena Acosta (superior of the orphanage), Sr. Shana de la Pena (her assistant), Sr. Francisca Bailosis (superior of the nearby retreat house) andSr. Paz Cabangon (her assistant). May God continue to bless our endeavors through the intercession of our Father Francis!
– Br. Joel de Jesus, OFMCap
