They say “brothers are a gift from nature.” I say, “Brothers are a gift from the Lord.” It was a blessing for the brothers of Our Lady of Lourdes Formation House in Lipa when three postulants from the Custody of Papua New Guinea arrived at the formation house last January 17, 2014. They were Joseph Umba, 26 yrs. old, Christopher Skoei, 30 yrs. old, and Clement Tarmat, 34 yrs. old .
Straight from NAIA airport, they arrived at around 11:00 p.m. together with Bros. Allan Samson and Ryan Labasa. In behalf of the brothers of the Province, they were “officially” welcomed by Br. Eugenio P. Lopez, the Provincial Minister, who concelebrated at the Eucharist presided by Br. Danny dela Peña early the next day on January 18, 2014.
The three will stay to integrate with the eight (8) Filipino postulants who likewise are candidates for the next stage of formation- the Novitiate. They will join the brother postulants’ responsibilities such as ground works, house works, communal prayer, Eucharistic Celebration, and they will even sit in some classes like Synoptic Gospels, Music and others. To each of them was assigned learning partners for them to be assisted in adjusting to the activities of the formation house.
Pope Francis, in his message for the celebration of the World Day of Peace last January 1, 2014, he said, “Fraternity is an essential human quality, for we are relational beings. A lively awareness of our relatedness helps us to look upon and to treat each person as a true sister or brother; without fraternity it is impossible to build a just society and a solid and lasting peace….” May we as individual and as a Christian be truly a Brother to All despite of the differences we have.
