February 26-27, 2014: PACIFIC – ASIA CAPUCHIN CONFERENCE HOLDS ITS ANNUAL MEETING

The delegates from the different Circumcriptions of the Asia – Pacific Capuchin Conference (PACC) gathered at Rumah Retret St. Fransiskus,Tirta Ria, Pontianak, Kalimantan, Indonesia to hold the PACC meeting for the year 2014. The Capuchin Indonesia Province of Pontianak, led by Provincial Minister, Fr. Amandus Ambot, OFMCap hosted the affair. The brothers of the Provincial Curia of Pontianak and of Rumah Retret St. Fransiskus (St. Francis Retreat House) provided warm hospitality to the representatives of the circumscriptions. The delegates are especially grateful to Fr. Joseph Juwono,OFMCap who anticipated all the needs of the brothers and insured that their stay in the Rumah Retret St. Fransiskus was as comfortable as possible.

The PACC is composed of the Capuchin circumscriptions of Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Medan (Indonesia), Pontianak (Indonesia), Sibolga (Indonesia), New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Thailand, and the new circumscription of Timor Leste. Fr. Victorius Dwiardy,OFMCap, Definitor General for the PACC accompanied the delegates throughout the proceedings while PACC President, Fr. Eugenio Juanilo Lopez,OFMCap of the Philippines presided over it.

The meeting gave the delegates an opportunity to update the member circumscriptions on what has transpired in their respective regions throughout the year 2013. The meeting likewise enabled the members to lay down plans for the future. It was likewise an opportunity for the members to strengthen the bonds of unity, fraternal collaboration and solidarity.

February 27, 2014: PACIFIC – ASIA CAPUCHIN CONFERENCE ELECTS A NEW VICE – PRESIDENT

The delegates of the different circumscriptions of the Pacific – Asia Capuchin Conference (PACC) sat down on February 27, 2014 and voted for the new PACC Vice-President. Fr. Emmanuel Sembiring,OFMCap who is the Provincial Minister of the Indonesian Province of Medan was elected, by a unanimous vote,  to be the next PACC Vice-President until the year 2015. Fr. Emmanuel will be taking up the post of PACC Vice-President after it has been vacant for some time. The previous Vice-President, Fr. Eugenio Juanilo Lopez,OFMCap had to replace Fr. Victorius Dwiardy,OFMCap as PACC President when Fr. Victorius was elected as Definitor General for the PACC.

February 28, 2014: PACC DELEGATES ATTEND A PRIESTLY ORDINATION AND VISIT FRIARIES IN INDONESIA

The PACC members graced the ordination to the priesthood of Br. Franciskus Forgione,OFMCap at Nyarumkop-Singkawang Timur Jumat in Indonesia, a four hour drive from Rumah Retret St. Fransiskus,Tirta Ria, Pontianak, Indonesia where the delegates of PACC had the annual meeting. The ordination was presided by His Excellency Archbishop Hieronymus Bumbun,OFMCap. The delegates were treated to the intricate and colorful ceremony of priestly ordination in Indonesia with tribal dances and beautiful music. Almost two thousand people graced the occasion.

In the spirit of fraternal collaboration and solidarity, the delegates also visited the Capuchin Novitiate at Gunung Poteng, Singkawang and later proceeded to San Lorenzo Friary, the Post-graduate House at Siantan, Pontianak. The day was capped by a dinner provided through the initiative of Fr. Herman Mayong,OFMCap Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Pontianak.

March 1, 2014: LOOKING TO THE FUTURE WITH HOPE

Strengthened and encouraged by the experiences of the past, the delegates of the circumscriptions of the Pacific – Asia Capuchin Conference look forward to a promising future of stronger fraternal collaboration and solidarity of personnel. They also aspire for greater strides in the missionary work to other regions entrusted to them. The challenges before them are many but the grace of God will always be there to strengthen and to inspire.
