March 11-23 2014 – Seven perpetually professed Filipino Capuchins gathered together with their Novice Master at the Novitiate of St. Felix of Cantalice, Baguio City, Philippines in order to celebrate Balik-Nobisyado 2014.
Balik-Nobisyado is a tradition among the Filipino Capuchins wherein friars who underwent their Novitiate under the same Novice Master would gather together after many years of being perpetually professed in order to re-live their novitiate life together for a couple of days. The tradition has been a wonderful venue for the brothers to renew the fervor of their commitment as Capuchins, recall their life as novices, re-strengthen their bonds with each other and prepare themselves to face the future with renewed vigor and enthusiasm.
This year, the brothers who gathered together had their novitiate formations from the year 1991-1994 under the guidance of their Novice Master Fr. Domingo Velasco,OFMCap. The following brothers attended the important event: Br. Rolando Briones,OFMCap., Br. William Bustamante ,OFMCap., Br. Chito Bartolo,OFMCap., Br. Flavio Lacson,OFMCap., Br. Rally Gonzaga,OFMCap., Br. Leny Escalada,OFMCap., and Br. Mario Mortalla,OFMCap. A Malaysian Capuchin, Br. David Reegon,OFMCap also underwent his novitiate under Fr. Domingo Velasco,OFMCap but due to his responsibilities in Malaysia was unable to join the affair.
The experience of the brothers was further highlighted by the visit of PACC general definitor Br. Victorius Dwiardy,OFMCap. who, together with the Minister Provincial of the Philippine Province, Br. Eugenio Lopez,OFMCap., encouraged the brothers to continue with fervor in the life they have been called and have chosen to lovingly embrace. May God continue to bless us all!
